Brain Activity Decoder Can Reveal Stories in People’s Minds
Two researchers at the University at Texas have shown that there’s a pretty good chance that portable mind-reading helmets may be affordable to many in a few years. Combining GPT-1 with a massive fMRI machine, they can get a continuous read-out of the voice that runs continually in our heads, interpreting not only the words we form mentally, but what our senses are telling us. What appears to most excite them is the potential to achieve the same results with a technology that’s much lighter-weight: functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy, which people are already wearing as snazzy helmets made by Kernel.
