Are You Ready to Become a Cyborg?

UU SARATOGA FOLK SINGER DAN BERGGREN WILL PERFORM THREE SONGS IN SUNDAY’S SERVICE, INCLUDING “IMAGINE THAT,” A FINALIST FOR A 2022 EDDIE AWARD.

Humanity's future in face of AI will be the focus of a Unitarian Universalist service hosted jointly in Zoom this Sunday, February 20, by the Boca Raton Fellowship and Saratoga Springs Congregation.

Asking "Are You Ready to Become a Cyborg?", the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at this link:

"A new cluster of Unitarian Universalists who stand for dignity and justice in the development and deployment of AI is forming," said UU Saratoga member Dan Forbush. "We must explore where AI is taking us and decide if the futures that are forecast are those we want for our children and grandchildren."

The service is an extension of work that Forbush and UU Boca Raton member Ron Roth are doing with AI and Faith, a growing community of ethicists, philosophers, theologians and AI-focused engineers who are bringing the values of faith communities into the development of Ethical AI.

"AI and Faith is helping us bring the conversation about AI directly into UU congregations," said Roth. "To support that work, we're inviting those who are interested to join a new UU TransHumanist interest group that aims to support a national discussion of the transformative implications of AI."

"This is where AI and the Human comes in," Roth explained. "We're developing this platform in collaboration with AI and Faith to serve as our blog and YouTube channel, where we’ll livestream monthly conversations with top experts to which we’ll invite all UU congregations.”

Sunday's service will include three theme-related songs performed by Dan Berggren, a UU Saratoga member whose work as a folksinger is widely enjoyed. The first song he'll perform, "Imagine That," has been nominated for a Thomas Edison Music Award -- or "Eddie" -- which is awarded annually to celebrate outstanding musicians in New York's Capital District.
